ABOUT THE ARTIST
You are unique, your jewelry should be too.Embark on this journey with me, Alessandra Pohlmann, as I invite you into the captivating world of my handcrafted Statement Jewelry.
Growing up in the vibrant culture of Brazil, I was surrounded by women who adorned themselves with fantastic attire and exquisite jewelry. This early exposure instilled in me a deep love for statement pieces, weaving them into the rich tapestry of my family’s history—a lineage of strong, unique women. Throughout my life, my passion for architecture, design, and various art forms has been an unwavering guiding force. The desire to create with my own hands has been a constant companion on my journey. This lifelong dedication to the world of art and design was sparked by none other than my grandmother, a pioneering civil engineer. She embarked on a journey to learn macramé when I was just a curious six-year-old, eager to pass down this intricate art to me. As we crafted my first piece of jewelry together, she possessed an extraordinary gift for recognizing potential. With her unwavering support, she told me that I was destined to become an architect and explore the world. That moment marked the beginning of my profound journey into the world of art and design. |
Starting my career as an Architect, the transition into sculpture occurred organically. My art and studio work became my sanctuary, grounding me as a single mother juggling a full-time job. To better execute my sculptures, I embarked on a second degree in Visual Arts and Sculpture a decade after earning my Master’s in Urban Planning in Spain.
My sculptures have graced galleries and museums in Brazil, Chile, England, Germany, and the United States. I’ve lived in various countries, and today, I call Brooklyn, NYC, my home.
These diverse experiences have profoundly influenced my approach to jewelry design. My inspiration is intricately intertwined with my sculptural work and the rich tapestry of my heritage. My mission is to create pieces for individuals who, like me, adore Limited Edition Statement Jewelry that is handmade, not mass-produced.
In the tumultuous year of 2020, as the world went into lockdown, I built a small studio within my Brooklyn apartment and embarked on a new venture—making jewelry. My intention is clear: to bring my sculptures to life in everyday wear. Transforming sculptures into wearable art challenges the notion that art should not be touched or observed from a distance. This concept is what I like to call ‘Micro sculptures.’
For the casting process, I collaborate with a local NYC small business that shares my commitment to sustainability. They use Fairmined Certified gold, silver, and bronze, a certification established by the Alliance for Responsible Mining. This certification ensures that the precious metals are sourced in harmony with nature, respecting human dignity and sustainable development—bringing positive transformation to mining communities.
At the heart of it all, my business thrives on local roots, boasting a small carbon footprint, and actively supporting our fellow small businesses in the vibrant fabric of NYC.
Each piece you see here is a part of me, a reflection of what brings happiness to my life.
Join me on this enchanting journey, where art and craftsmanship meld seamlessly to create unique, limited edition Statement Jewelry that you, too, can cherish.
Come with me on this journey.
Love,
Alessandra
